Job Duties:
This position provides staff assistance and technical industrial hygiene work through the implementation of a comprehensive abatement and management program for facility-related hazardous substances such as asbestos, lead and mold at University of Wisconsin-Madison facilities.  The position is responsible for performing and interpreting the results of industrial hygiene samples; conducting field investigations and literature review related to industrial hygiene, environmental protection, and public health aspects of the asbestos and lead management programs. The position functions as a scientific expert on professional matters related to environmental health, public health, and industrial hygiene as they relate to hazardous substance abatement and management. Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of:  asbestos hazards, inspection, materials and uses, methods of testing abatement, regulations and recommendations; building design, layout and systems; state building, safety, and health codes; building mechanical systems (e.g. plumbing, electrical, ventilation, steam,); established safety practices, procedures, techniques standards and codes; industrial hygiene techniques and instrumentation; general and local ventilation and exhaust principles.  Ability to read and understand blueprints, drawings, and building specifications.
