Topic: ACGIH TLV for Noise and other related topics
Every year, approximately 30 million people in the United States are occupationally exposed to hazardous noise. Fortunately, the incidence of noise-induced hearing loss can be reduced or eliminated through the successful application of engineering controls and hearing conservation programs. However in setting up these programs, there are often questions on interpretation of the standard. To help with this, we have asked Lee Hager to come and discuss the ACGIH TLV for Noise and the logic and documentation of that TLV. He will also update us on OSHA’s possible change of their standard to an 85 dBA threshold PEL as well as discuss the new EPA hearing protection labeling issues. Lee brings nearly 20 years of experience to his position as Hearing Loss Prevention Consultant, including consultation regarding the quality and integrity of hearing conservation programs. He has served as President of the National Hearing Conservation Association (NHCA); chair of the Noise Committee of the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA); NIOSH National Occupational Research Agenda (NORA) Noise Team member; Council for Accreditation in Occupational Hearing Conservation (CAOHC) Council Member; and with ANSI Working Group S12/WG11 on hearing protector evaluation and labeling issues. He presents and publishes regularly on noise and hearing topics, having received the AIHA Noise Committee Outstanding Lecture Award in 2003 and 2008, and NHCA’s Threadgill Award for service in 2004. Most of all, he cares about your ears.
